Gibson sisters smile as Amanda shows them their picture.

Amanda’s background in photojournalism and the fine arts makes her wedding photography truly unique. Amanda believes that her work stands out from traditional wedding photography because she has the ability to candidly capture your special moments.

Amanda Custer graduated from the Dean’s Scholar Program at the University of Delaware. Under the advisement of a Dean in the College of Arts and Sciences, Amanda designed a program of study concentrating on humanistic photography. Her documentary work received praise from the College of Arts and Sciences and she was a recipient of the Woman of Promise Award.

Amanda also received awards from the photography department in its competitive annual juried exhibition. The Dean’s Scholar Program allowed Amanda to supplement her education at the University of Delaware by attending the Salt Institute for Documentary Studies in Portland, Maine. Amanda also studied with the award winning photojournalism program at Western Kentucky University. Her instructors included Pulitzer Prize winning photographer Martha Rial of the Pittsburgh Post Gazette, National Geographic writer Lynne Warren and the New York Times photo editor, David Frank.

Amanda shot this photo of her brother, sister and dogs in rural PA when she was 9 years old using a Fisher Price camera.

Amanda also acknowledges the impact that her grandfather, Ray Clites, a photojournalist in Johnstown, Pennsylvania had on her desire to pursue photography. Her passion for photography was evident at as young as 4 years old when she first began shooting. Since then, she has retired her Fisher Price camera that she used as a child and currently shoots with a Nikon D100 which is a professional Nikon digital camera.

Amanda believes that her unique style, which she refers to as, “photojournalistic with a fashion-edge” is due to the intertwining of her training with the fine art program at the University of Delaware and her experience in the demanding field of photojournalism.

Amanda currently lives in Blacksburg, Virginia.  She continues to provide services for clients in the Philadelphia area.  In 2007, Amanda will be expanding her market to Park City, Utah.
